Conferences and workshops

The idea with this page is to highlight some of the main outcomes from conferences, workshops and meetings I’ve either arranged or attended. This page will constantly be updated.

Upcoming event: April 8-9, 2014. M4D2014. The 4th International Conference on Mobile Communication for Development (M4D) will be organised in Dakar, Senegal, 8-9 April 2014 by University Cheikh Anta Diop (UCAD) in co-operation with HumanIT, Karlstad University. Involved as a conference chair.

May 24-25, 2013. Mobile Telephony in the Developing World Conference (University of Jyväskylä, Finland. Presented two papers, both research in progress. One for the main program: M4D Innovation in East Africa – Real, Hype or Both?, and the other one for the doctoral workshop: Mobile Hype and Hope – Challenges in using mobile communication technology to enhance transparency, accountability and political participation.

February 28-29, 2012. M4D2012. In the International Programme Committee. Presented a paper too.

June 9, 2011. Democrazy workshop. Facilitated and presented during an ICT for democracy workshop organised by Spider in Stockholm. Identified panellists, worked on the background material (together with Helen Belcastro) and put the workshop into a context by holding a introductory talk about ICT for democracy work in Sweden.

May 24-25, 2011. Organised and moderated ICT for democracy workshop, in Kampala, together with colleague Caroline from Spider. The purpose of the workshop was to hold discussions, map a way forward for potential Spider projects, and advocate for collaborative efforts. I gave a brief historical overview of the Swedish ICT4D support and relevant policies.

May 9-10, 2011. Peer review meeting. Invited to the UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) in Geneva for a peer review meeting on the Information Economy Report 2011. The objective was to review the draft and lead the discussion on mobile use in private sector development (PSD).

April 12-13, 2011. Attending Global Civil Society – Shifting Powers in a Shifting World, in Uppsala. Keynotes from Jude Howell (London School of Economics and Political Science), Kumi Naidoo (Greenpeace International), Jackie Smith (University of Notre Dame) and Tony Tujan (IBON and BetterAid).

April 3, 2011. SVETAN (Sweden-Tanzania Association) Annual Meeting. Keynote: How mobile phones are changing East Africa and Tanzania.
